Easily switched on and off for easy placement. Works great for me and has about as much holding strength as the permanent magnets I already had. Being able to switch it on and off makes this magnet a lot more convenient and it is easily cleaned of welding splatter and metal fillings by switching the magnet off .

This is a substantial magnet and when switched on, holds workpieces very steady. I would have liked a little more force, but actually didn't need more for the job I was doing, involving 1.2 m long steel box section, about 50 X 30 mm.
