Test conditions: Sunny afternoon in February. I don't expect full output from a solar panel in February, but perhaps 2/3 of rated output. Panel tested: Elfeland 30 Watt SP2-30W12V Product ID: 1065241 Comparison panel: Harbor Freight 15 watt panel ====== Test equipment: 60 volt 100 amp power meter Product ID: 919179 Solar charge controller Product ID: 1035411 12 volt 10AH AGM battery ====== Test results: Harbor Freight panel (rated 860ma Imp) delivers 800 ma and 10.2 watts to the charge controller. The Elfeland panel (rated 1.6 amp Imp) delivers 260 ma and 3.2 watts to the charge controller. With a 15 ohm resistor (close to an optimum load) connected across the Elfeland panel, it delivers 250 ma. That should be more than 1 amp. The panels were adjacent and at the same angle (the edge of the thin Elfeland panel was held in the groove of the frame of the Harbor Freight panel to ensure that they were at the same angle to the sun). I would consider 3.2 watts acceptable if the panel label indicated that it was a 5 watt panel. It is TOTALLY UNSATISFACTORY for panel labeled 30 watts. ====== The Elfeland 30 Watt solar panel is either 1. incorrectly labeled 2. defective ===== A replacement panel that produces the output I paid for would make me a happy customer. A refund would at least let me know that it wasn't an intentional ripoff.
